Terrible: Wels in Brazil

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didn't read the entire link but hopefully the locals will take to eating the wels before it becomes a problem for the ecosystem. One could imagine the waters eventually being "fished out"down there after viewing photos of their fish markets.

I domt even want to click the links. After watching the river monsters episode on the wels, I hate the whole species. I know its silly of me but the guy who introduced them all over europe was so smug and pleased with what he did I wanted to do horrible things to him

I thought they were a native European species, wasn't aware or must have forgotten that they were introduced all over the country...This brings to mind the whole situation with the Nile perch being brought into Lake Victoria.

Hopefully the warm water will kill them off. That'd destroy the local economy, let's hope they never make their way to the states or I'll be taking up spearfishing pretty quick (nobody messes with my natives :angryfire).

/\lol/\

they have some major competition in the amazon mind you... they are used to being top predator and being fearless, try that with a 15 foot caiman or 25ft anaconda lol! like to think our favourte rivers natives will keep em under control?

They are european.

A mess, their introduction in Brasil...so far it is way down south

They are european but iirc a northern species that never grew to outrageous sized until moved intentionally to warmer climates

i think they did, wasnt it fishing that eradicated all the 15ft Russian ones? grow quicker in the warm tho iirc
