/\lol/\

they have some major competition in the amazon mind you... they are used to being top predator and being fearless, try that with a 15 foot caiman or 25ft anaconda lol! like to think our favourte rivers natives will keep em under control?

Well anaconda dont prey on fishes. A caiman might but then again how many big native catfish ended up as a meal for caiman? I am afraid that there are no natives that will keep the wels catfish under control.

It's funny cuz i think if the opportunity comes up, an anaconda would feed on a large catfish. I was babysittin my friend's green anaconda for 6 months and it would actually eat whole fish

The one thing that may save the amazon from the wels is it womt be the only large catfish in the river system. All the way through the food chain, fish have had to adapt living with rtc and piraiba and such. May be horrible for the eco system or it may not change much but it is a potential tragedy.

Yet anaconda rarely prey on fishes in the wild and its usually juveniles that are feeding on small fishes. But then again anacondas are not known for being fish eaters. They'd rather tackle some caimens and other land critters. The problem is that giant catfish are found in deep water so its unlikely that anacondas will encountered a giant catfish.

well there's not lot of Amazonian catfish that rival the size of Wels catfish.

Very true. I'm just trying not to rule out the fact that they could help diminish the population even if it is just the small ones.

Doubt it. Like I said, anacondas are not known as fish eaters and the fish rarely show up in the diet of anacondas out in the wild.
