Test kits good and bad?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
another thing about nitrate test kits is that if they have been sitting for a while they will read 0ppm no mater what your results are. this is because there is a heavy metal in the solution, i think its zinc, and after some time it seperates and sink to the bottom of the bottle. the zinc is needed to get readings. so you need to shake the life out the bottom to "remix" it.
i personally would trust the api test kit.

The kits are all new and I shook the heck otta them... the water life has a separate powdered magnesium that you add, 4 regents...

Also your right rd 50ppm legal requirement in the uk, how does anyone keep fish alive here!!!! Whats the usa's law?

0 nitrate where I live, don't know what max allowed is?

Just wanted to add, sturgeon pellets are generally in the 40-45% protein range, but the crude fat level is generally quite high, 15% or greater - which is more than double of what any of your catfish would require in captivity. Excess fat is harmful to your fish, and your water quality (as is excess protein), feed that food very sparingly.

here in the usa nitrates are probably allowed to be 8 billion ppm.

I use api and as long as I shake the nitrate bottles/test tube properly I get pretty accurate readings, IMO it's a great test kit.
