i've been keeping fish since i was very young about 8 years old and a test kit or kits is the one thing i've never owned. so that roughly 20 or 21 years of fish keeping no test kits ever. the question is how many other fish keepers don't have test kits?

no test kit opinions

If anyone cares about fish, they need to know the water perameters. Test kits ARE needed for every fish.

they are needed but just be carefull with them!

i've tested my water today with a new kit and my nitrite was off the scale(alot darker than the "your fish are all dead" shade) :irked:which seemed odd as all my fish were fine, so i tested it again and its way over 4mg/l, the kit advised

"the emergancy removal of all fish to a simillar chemastry tank......."

as im not much of a worryer(and i no if my puffer looks ok my water cant be that bad) so i took my water into my lfs and got them to test it me and my water is fine so dont just rely on the kits, if you no your fish you should no if theres sumthing not quite right

oh and yes allready sent a complaint in to the manufacturer so dont want to name and shame the brand just yet, hopefully it was just a one off

i'm going to the lfs now to get a test kit and see if i can find out why my tig died

I only test at the beginning of the tank being established, once the fish are in, and if anything looks noticeably wrong. My fish don't exactly need pristine water, so it's not necessary. If I had discus or something like that, it might be different.
