When I fill a tank for the first time, I feel the need to go around it giving it a thump with the back of my fist.

I don't know, maybe if something's going to happen I'd rather it happen to me than someone else.

I was actually thinking today that it seemed rather pointless. Would anyone agree?

sorry to do this to you

but i do it too... i thump the hell out of them... all 4 sides.... i do this for several days while they are set up in the backyard... i figure if they make it though "hell week" they will last for years in the house...

video or its not true!

what size tanks are we talking about here?

because if you guys are punching big tanks with 1/2 inch glass its not going to do anything - you can't break it with your fists.

1/2 plate glass is extremely strong..

i totally agree! i mean your gonna have to punch thick glass pretty hard for it to crack or shatter.
on the other hand i can see why you do it, i'm not going to fib, i do exactly the same. no idea why i bother tho it cant be good for the seals  x

I think a better test would be to fill it so that it overflows over the top.

well lets see if they fill the tank all they way up then beat on it its a lot of stress compaired to just hitting it empty

so a tank full of water being hit could break a lot easier than you think
