Testing tank strength...the hard way?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Kick the tires when your looking at buying a car too? :D

Yes, this 'test' could have negative effects (tank breaks and you going to hospital screaming about how the glass "just broke" (not the stupid thing you did) and can they save your hand.

Unless you foresee this happening in your home :nilly: , the tank will never have a point stress like your trying to give it.

Of course there is the thought that you have overstressed the glass and have created a later failure. (ie Heisenberg uncertainty principle... observation you change the thing you observe).

But if it makes you feel better, you can afford a replacement & don't care about the above danger...have at it.

Why not stand on a step ladder and give it a good kick while your at it?

i tump the tank to make it flex just to test the seams.. not the check the glass..

LOL at some of these replies

BTW, what kind of danger does light scratching make to a glass pane (like a turtle might make) when used full of water....and does polishing it help?

You tank thumpers are just unbelievable, I am speechless.
One is born every minute they say....LOL

Theoretically it weakens the surface tension and therefore the glass strength.
Polishing smooths out the sharp areas of the scratches (actually surface cracks as looked at under magnification) as they are where cracks could continue from. Plus polishing makes the scratches mostly transparent under water :headbang2.

your fists are too soft, use a hammer

but seriously, any tank from a reputable manufacturer had already passed a quality inspection, i just fill it up and if it doesn't leak - we're good
