tetra black water extract?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've used this in the past to induce breeding with piranha's. I'm pretty sure carbon pulls it out of the water though so be aware of that.

Just boil some oak leaves and pour the extract into the tank. It's quick and simple, that's what I do for my blackwater tank.

I used this for breeding never really for its look. just watch the water parameters it does altar things. i never used the amount all at once. good for breeding as it creates a similar wtaer conditions to breeding seasons. i bred plecos with it mostly. never effected other fish in the tank negativley.

It does help. I think it helps with bacterial infections and obviously can lower the ph. Thats all i know and Im sure theres more to know. As a cheaper alternative I used Indian Almond leaves and would boil 5-6 leaves in a gallon of water and let it simmer for a long while to concentrate the tannins into something that when I added it to a tank it wouldnt take much for the desired effect. Hers a little info on them. http://www.indianalmondleaves.com/aquariums.php

I also think so.

where would i get almond leaves?
amy's ketapang on ebay has been my best source. as for every day... I wouldn't over do it. too much and you can't see the fish. besides that it also has vitamins added and too much can be toxic.

I have pecan trees and a few oak and pine trees in my area? your saying these will work? then i just boil them and add to the tank? my aro and lung seem a lot more active seem healthier, plus the tank looks great!

A trick JK47 showed me is to go to your LFS that carries a bunch of driftwood... They're usually in Tupperware containers, and if you're friendly with the staff you can get all the little pieces that have broken off in the bottom and throw them in a media bag and put them in a filter or sump. :)
