i have a rena 300 and 100 and these things are loud.
lol I guess its subjective. I recently put all my air pumps on top of the tanks and removed the check valves for more air flow and I am realizing they are kind of noisy nothing intolerable but I only have a 29 gallon in my bedroom so meh no biggie on the noise factor some people are more sensitive.

I bought a Whisper 100 about three months ago for my 60gal tank, and it just died! Any one else have this problem?

A few months ago I spent a decent amount of time reading the reviews on Amazon.com for the whisper pumps, because I wasn't sure which to buy. I ended up with a whisper 20 (from drsfosersmith site for about $9)

From what I gathered, the 100 models are junk.

To be safe, I'd stick with the single outlet whisper air pumps (i think the 60 and 100s have 2 outlets).

the rena's are quiet, but expensive. i broke my dual outlet rena trying to take the airline off, the plastic nipple on the pump decided to come off with the airline, so now i have a football sized pump that only works on one side.

although the rena's are nice, the price is just too high.

Guess mines a time bomb then :D

I've had Whispers since the late 60's. They work, and most of them last decades. Rena has a good reputation, but they would have to match or beat Whisper on price for me to even try them because I have really found no fault with the Whisper pumps.

i love my whispers....replaced my rena with a whisper....

Go with the Whisper models. Renas are over rated and expensive as well.

Last fall I bought 2 whisper 100s and a 60. They were all loud IMO. The 60 I threw a towel on it the first night because the noise from the other room was keeping me up. The next day it was burned up. The 100s I ended up putting in the garage and running line through the walls. One 100 lasted about 5 months and the first diaphragm cracked, within the next two months both 100s were dead. Replacement diaphragm kits are almost as expensive as the whole pump.
