Tetraodon biocellatus with Ghost Shrimp?

Have a 20 gallon tank that is over-run with snails. The tank is planted with a sandy bottom and is basically where i put my ghost shrimp before i feed them. Would it be ok to put a Tetraodon biocellatus in there to take care of the snail problem? Would they kill off the shrimp? Any chance they'd harm the swords or the java ferns?

Both the shrimp and snails will be on the menu (mine GSP loves shrimp).

I have a F8 and his favorite snack of all time is Ghost Shrimp. He barely even touches the snails. Its all about the chase. As soon as I drop the shrimp in there and they take off in all directions, Nugget is on it. He jsut recently learned how to pin them against the glass top so he can get them. I will buy them by teh dozen and in 30 minutes he will have them all gone.

Any type of puffer would have shrimp at the top of their dining list.
You could get a Colomesus asellus (south american/amazon), this is a completely fresh water puffer. Your shrimp would still be on the menu though... lol

Yeah, shrimp will definitely be gone, even if the puffer is lazy, after he finishes the snails, he'll sneak up on the shrimp at night and pick them off. That's how my Fahaka does it.

Another issue beside eating the Ghost Shrimp is, what type of snails are you talking about. If they are Trumpet snails then the shells are to hard for the puffer and would likely break his beak/teeth.

I agree what type of snails are they...that makes a difference. And snails and shrimp are delicacies to just about any puffer....kinda like hamburgers and hot dogs on the 4th of July to us...LOL...
