my wife want to set up a community tank in a 29g. small tetras. never tried fish this small. here are the choices
glolite tetra (must have)
neon
black neon
blue neon
gold tetra
rummy nose tetra
harlequin rasbora
i know a pH 7.5, 80 degrees F, no salt (planted tank). anything special for them? any good combonations of the above fish?

i would go with only 3-4 of those to stop it looking like the noahs ark effect, summat of everything. I would go glowlites harlequins rummy nose and standard neons although you could put in the blue neons as everyone has the standard type.

I think Tetras are at their best in terms of well being in schools as large as you have room for.
When it comes to combining them less is more. Choose two species and get six or eight of each. Glolites and Black Neons are good because their colors contrast and glolites tend to hug the bottom third and black neons tend to stay in the middle third of the water column.

Blue Neons and I'm guessing you are talking about green neons, Paracheirodon simulans is a very nice species. You would find then a really nice change from their relatives P. axelrodi and P. innesi, Cardinal and reg Neons respectively.
P. simulans is just rare enough I would be tempted to go with them. They are the smallest species in the Genus. They are a favorite of Amano's. He frequently chooses fish that are less common as the focal point in his display tanks.

id just put like 50 glolites and neons 25 each plus some cories. no special care required theyr very hardy fish

Apistomaster, I think he is more likely referring to blue tetras, [FONT=arial, verdana, helvetica]Boehlkea fredcochui, which are uncommon, but not like the p. simulans.

why not a large school of cardinal tetras or some other very colorful tetra and add some Corydoras for the bottom

ORANGE VON RIOS, then you get a nice bright orange color. but as for how many, i would probably just pick 3-5 with 5-8 indivuals each.

Nix the neons (they aren't hardy like they used to be) and get some cardinals instead. Look almost the same, slightly bigger, a "better" blue in my opinion, and they are more hardy than the neons.
