Has anyone had experience with the Tetratec PF500 filter and the compatible HC200 Heating Capsule? I am considering this for a 55g baby ray tank I'm planning since I don't want an in-tank heater for that little beastie. :feedback:

They're a little tricky to get running well, but after they are up and running they work well. RTFM before starting.

I owned a pf500 w/heater. You might find the heater dosent work all that well at keeping the temp even, and it stays on all the time.....whitch is why I had to replace the heater twice before I sold it at fish auction.

Tetratec filters are garbage.I would reccomend an aquaclear110.They are one of the few hanging filters that can actually pump as much water as they claim.

Penguin hang on filters are the best... (well IMO)

i agree with craig and cenecker
penguin and aquaclear are better and usually cost less
i have a ac500 and really like it

Well, I did go ahead and get the TetraTec PF500 (with the heater core) and have been running it for about two weeks. So far I am impressed with the water flow (with customizable direction) and I like that it holds two sets of two filter pads so you can change out one set and not lose all of your good bacteria. It's maintaining a good, stable temperature, and there are no "hot spots." It's also rather quiet for a power filter of its size and has a relatively small "footprint" on the back of the tank, considering the output. I'll post more after the tank's been up and running longer.
