Thanks. I boiled him in a pot of water with salt. I first boiled him for about an hour and a half, this got most of the meat and insides loose. It was a little tough getting it with tweezers, so I boiled it for another half an hour, but without salt this time. 99% of the meat is now off. Looks like more boiling to come.

Does anybody now what I should coat the skeleton in in order to prevent rotting and odors? I used the salt to kill off any bacteria. I was thinking of just coating it in some polyurethane.

Sorry for your loss...

Sucks to hear that, a friend recently had the same thing happen to his 16" ornate.

On the subject of polys getting out, how many of you that have had one jump had euro-style bracing with a fixed lip all around the top of the tank? I have noticed that my ornate will put their nose up to the glass and swim pushing against it, while moving up and down. Sometimes they get pretty crazy and he can go out of the water and hit the bracing.
My theory is that if there was a gap or a lid that was light enough to be pushed off then I think he'd end up on the floor, but because the bracing is fixed in place he can't move it and stays in the tank.

Thanks Anne, hairspray it is.:)

so sorry to hear

you can soak it in peroxide for a little while to get the rest of the crap off of it, just rinse it with water.

Actually you might want to consider some clear coat spraypaint. That will seal it up once it dries.

sorry for your loss, would hate for mine to do that.. are senegals known for also jumping out? the top of my tank is 99% covered, the rest is one gap that is covered with a sheet.
