Teugelsi question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Segrest is a distributer? Where did they obtain the fish from? Looks like the Indonesian breeds.

Sergest farm breed their own. They been breeding bichirs for a long time. Breeding method is milking method. Indonesia and Thailand does the same too. As hormone injection is now expensive. Although not many will survive but it's better as they are not mass produce. Also the milking method retain it's wild caught look.

Sorry but where did you get this? It's wrong. Sergest are a distributer. They obtain fish from abroad as young, and tank raise them.
The Teugelsi they sell are from Indonesia.

Lol! How is wrong? Where did I get this? I ordered from them from time to time and I also visited the farm 3x already. Segrest farm used to get fish from CV maju in Indonesia also in Quin Hu in Singapore and many more in Thailand, India, and South america as well in Nigeria. They also learned the method from them and started breeding their own. It's because they are distributor that doesn't mean that they don't breed their own. Fish that they can't breed are being ordered abroad. BTW how do you know that they came from Indonesia? Whenever a CB bichirs appear, many keep saying they are from Indonesia. Yes, mostly, but Thailand breeds them in mass numbers too. Their are small pet stores here in Canada that that the milking method and sell the fry in their own store since bichirs are not the daily fish being sold. It save them time, money and space than buying a min amount abroad which are around 25-50 juvenile bichirs.

How strange.
It's not difficult to enquire. I did.
Straight from the horses mouth: (quoted from a conversation I had over Facebook yesterday)

"We appreciate the compliment and we would welcome you to take a tour anytime you're in the area. The P. teugelsi are awesome fish that we're excited to offer. They actually aren't raised here but like all our Polypterus they are bred in Indonesia. The climate there is much more favorable to the breeding habits of these fish.
Thanks,

Segrest Farms"

Am I still full of it? Go ahead and ask them yourself. You will get the same answer. They are very upfront. They import fry and young fish and tank raise them forays distribution.
