Are Texacon females infertile?
I have about 6-8 & I think 3 of them might be female.
My Alpha of the tank(All Texacons) is a female, I've seen her egg tube drop but never witnessed any eggs.
Could it be there might be too much activity, or she's not interested in breeding with her siblings around.
I did have a male con in with them, but it made her display her mating colors too often so I removed him.
I don't really want any more hybrid.
They're a good source of treats, but take up too much room.
I'd rather dedicate the space for my RT grow outs.
Or some of my RD/Midas grow outs.

Females are never infertile frow what I know. As long as they lay eggs you're good. You may have just missed the eggs or she never laid them. When the belly is fat and the tube is down she's good to go. I've seen fish lay eggs and eat them within a half hour. Tank mates enjoy eating them too.

I call my Texacon "Mini FH's".

Pink con + Green Texas = Texacon

Why would I put fish in my sig if I don't keep them?
That's retarded.:screwy::grinno:

Is it that hard for it to happen?
My Texas stole away my con female from my proven pair.
Cons & Tex are known to be prolific breeders.
I wasn't even trying to get hybrids, it happen by accident.
I was working on a "blue convict" strain & the Texas messed it up.
I didn't think he was mature enough to spawn since he was smaller than my con pair.
I just had him in the tank cause I had a brood growing out in with their parents(cons).

I had hundreds of fry, most ended up treats & I kept the best looking or runts who managed to survive.
My runts come in handy, I leave them in my grow out tanks so my new fish remain the Alpha fish.:naughty:

Check out my album for proof.
They're not the best pix, but they've been in my Texacon album since I joined MFK.

Fish were getting shredded & scaled cause of her.
She's by herself now, & looking rather bored/depressed.
Maybe I'll try her with one of my RD's.
The best looking out the the Texacons are the females.

TTT/Bump.
How do I edit the title of my thread?
I want it to say Texacon Fertility question.

I tossed the alpha female into the tank my my RD since I had a leak in another tank this morning, it's funny to see the girls fighting each other trying to form a hierarchy. :grinno:

Anyone know what the chances of the males being fertile?

That's what I thought...
I'm glad I have mostly females.
They all look like females to me, but I noticed a few doing the dance.
I don't want/need anymore fry, but it would be nice to see if I have any males out of my bunch.
