Okay so I've known for a while that I'll be the proud recipient of two used tanks from a customer where I work (a 55 w/ all accessories and stand, and a 125 with stand), and will hopefully be getting them this week... Anyways... Just finally convinced the parents to let me set up the 55 in my room in place of my 37.(Had a 90 in there but after two "floods" from my python and a leak on the tank itself they decided to make me downsize)

This would leave me with the 55, a 20 long under with a rio danli hrp, and a 15 with a pair of cons. Just so ppl know haha.

My thoughts have always been that if I got a 55 that I'd do a male cyan...

I'm currently raising a baby convict in my 37 and have become kinda attached to the little fella, was wondering if possibly the Cyan with the convict would work in the 55...

My gut tells me that if I get what I want (which is a male texas and a male con) that this would result in WW3, but I'd like to hear your thoughts and experiences (if any) with true texas cichlids, as well as them with convicts...

Thanks!

Yep, should be fine for a while. Cyano's can get 10+" though, so keep that in mind for down the road. If it were me, id probably get several male cons to go in the tank with the cyano.

X2 ^^^
Don attempt adding a female, I had a spawn happen out of now where, now I have a few Texacons. :D

multiple might work better since if there is only one other small cichlid then it might get beat up on too much by the cyano but with multiples it kind of spreads around the aggression a bit and you def dont want the aggression of a breeding pair of anything. but you can try it with the single male con and see whether you need to add in more since the more cons you add the sooner you will have to move them to a larger tank, and eventually the male cyano should be in at least a 75g since they can get as long as a 55g is wide

Ahh makes sense, well my original goal was to have just the cyano in the 55 with some giant danios (dithers when he's young, don't mind if he eats them later).

Cyanos are probably my favorite cichlid that I've owned. I currently have one who is about 6.5" and he's an awesome guy. Great personality. What you mentioned doesn't sound like a bad idea, but Convicts are often used as dithers. I'd get maybe 3 or 4 males to put in with the Cyano.

I think what I might do is try a few male convicts with him when I get him (introduce them all at the same time with the texas being a little bigger than the cons), I just sometimes worry about there not being enough "turf" in a 55. I mean I can easily decorate it to make 3 solid territories, just thinking about how to make it work.

Lots of fake plants? I have 4 nice pieces of driftwood I can use, some fake plants, PVC (would prefer to not use that).

More thoughts? This is getting more and more awesome by the day :-) It's too bad I dont have this 55 yet to set up
