Texas beats Salvini, but hopefully not JD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My Texas has come to a peaceful arrangement with my JD. He has one cave that he doesn't let anyone in. Other fish go in there when he isn't there, but then he goes back and chases them out.
For the most part my Texas will chase around all the other larger fish in my tank a little bit, but not too much. It did take a few days though. As long as there are enough fish in there to keep the Texas busy he should be ok.
Good luck!!

I think the problem with my arrangement is that I'm introducing them both now when they are full grown.

Texas is continuing to give the male JD excessive harassment, to where the JD has trouble even during feeding time (because texas is still too stressed about his surroundings to partake of eating yet, I guess... so instead he spends the moment going after the JD, should the JD leave a given hiding place).

I've been mentally going over getting rid of one of the 3 fish, and its a tough decision but I think if things don't work out, I'm going to get rid of the salvini, primarily because he is so aesthetically BLAND compared to the beautiful texas and JD. The salvini really features dull muddy coloration, while the JD and texas sparkle like gemstones.

personality wise, all 3 are the same. They're skittish in my immediate presence, and when I'm at a distance all 3 make liberal use of their allotted tankspace, cruising around.

That's really too bad that they aren't getting along. I introduced mine with the JD full grown and the Texas almost full grown. He still has a little growing to do, but not much.
My Texas only really picks on my JD now when he goes into the Texas' cave. Other than that he doesn't really do much.
However at feeding time my JD will stand up for himself against the Texas. It's the only time though... Hopefully they will work it out so you don't have to get rid of one of your fish.

After several days of tank-turbulence, the Texas (and two other unwanted fish, a tinfoil barb and P. acei cichlid) went to MFK user bluedempsey, today.

I chose to get rid of the texas because the texas is just too big for a 55g, and I give preference to the JD getting the 200g... obviously I really like my JD.

The texas wasn't letting up on the JD-- in fact it was getting worse, JD's life looked like it was imperiled-- so I stopped by blued's place today and dropped the texas off.

So now, the male and female JD are rulers of the 200g, and the salvini remains in the 55g. I think this will lead to a fairly happy ending... I have to admit that the salvini surely can't be as happy in the 55g as he was in the 200g.

Sorry to hear that you had to get rid of your Texas. They are very cool fish. Definitely must have been a tough call. I have no idea what I would do if my Texas and JD didn't get along anymore. At least you know that they went to a good home though. Your JD will definitely be happier now.
