You have to examine the vent. Males are pointier than females. If it look like a pencil tip, it's a male. If it looks more like a crayon tip, female. Other than that, not really much different in texas cichlids at that size. BTW, this is best done while holding the fish. Do a little more research on venting cichlids... Hope this helps.
