yeah, 18-20 is biggest they can get!

While I've got a thread, does anybody local (central TX area) want some black bullheads? Somebody gave me a bunch of them.

When you say central texas, are you talking austin? I'm in San ANtonio, and i'd take one or more depending on size.

Haha, I know what you mean. That is the problem here. Not big enough for the big pond but will most likely outgrow the aquarium and little pond eventually.

I think they are cool fish, kept a couple last summer. just got through fishing, caught three of them about 15 inches each.

These were the first ones I've ever had. Our pond only has a bunch of yellow bullhead in it. I'm wanting to throw a flathead to have a pond monster. A few of them had some growth spurts and are now pushing 4 inches. Unfortunately I rarely see them because they hide all day long. The main reason I know they are in there is because my Rio Grand cichlid keeps getting stung.

how big is your pond? Flathead will slowly and methodically eat everything else in you tank.

Approximately 50 yds long, 25 wide (maybe a little bigger) and around 8 foot at the deepest spots with an average depth of 4-5 foot. That appetite is what we are counting on since restocking after it dried up didn't help after repeated attempts.

I know everybody has been saying black bullhead but I have to disagree. I think it may be some sort of mad tom. Look at the tail. Now, maybe I'm wrong but in the second picture, if his tail isn't pinched and is fanned out as far as it goes, then, it isn't a bullhead.
