i know there is two species, carpinte and cyanoguttus ? (sorry if i spelled it wrong)

they have "texas" at a few of my LFS's but i'd like the blue texas (carpinte)
im not sure wether they know, so is there any way to tell them apart as juveniles?
if its posssible could i have some juvie pics of both so i can make sure i get the right one =)

The Blue Texas Cichlid is the Cyano. The Green Texas Cichlid is the Carpinte. The easiest way to tell the 2 apart is the Carpinte has bigger spots and the Cyano has smaller spots.

They both have great color, but if you want one that stands out more get a Carpinte. Their spots make them look a lot more colorful.

I kind of wish I would have got a JD instead of a Texas now though...The JD is a lot better looking once grown, and possibly not as aggressive.

okay i thought carpinte was the one i wanted! thanks =D
like i said is there a way to tell them apart as juveniles?
also i never really have liked JD's so thats sadly a no =P

Even as juveniles, the Carpinte's spots are a lot larger than the Cyano's. Just compare the 2 and you can tell right off the back which one is which.

Even Veijas look awesome! Check those out.

yeah i do like vieja's ive kept one before im just looking for something more around 10-12" internet says texas gets 10" but im sure ive seen 12" ones =P
the vieja's all seem to get about 14-16"

A blue or green texas is the same species (carpintis) . A reg texas (cyano) is just called a texas cichlid.

Carpintis are sometimes called pearscale cichlids too.

I disagree. I think Texas cichlids look a lot nicer, and their body is much deeper instead of elongated.
