texas cichlid sexing

can anyone who actually knows from experience tell me how to positively tell if a tex is male or female?Ive read so much contradicting info that I now think my tex may be female after I thought it was male for so long.

I'm thinking male. The best way to tell, and it is hard with the pics supplied, is that females will have a black spot on the dorsal fin. If you can post a pic with the dorsal fin extended up it should be fairly easy.

If it doesn't have a black dorsal spot then it's most likely a male... You can always vent it.

Well I know it's not a carpinte but I don't know it's sex LOL. Not 100% sure but it looks like a male to me.
