It's a male. A female of that size would have a black spot on the dorsal fin and her breeding tube would be fairly visible.

male was my first initial reaction and thought.

So it's a male, thanks for your help dudes.

Do you think, as he's a male, he would develop a nuchal hump?.

According to your experience and what you see in the picts, how old do you think this fish is???

Accurately guessing fish age based on size alone is near and next to impossible but you can get close. There are so many factors that contribute to the size of a fish and age happens to be one of the many. If this fish grew up in the range of "average" to "good" condition as far as food, water parameters, temperature, size of tank etc. let's say he wasn't starved at some point, didn't grow up in a ten gallon, had an owner who did water changes at least once a month I'd say his age is anywhere between 8 months at best to two years at worst.
I gave my friend some carpintis fry a few years back and kept some for myself. Within the first year mine stacked up at 5" females and 7-8" males. His didn't break the 4.5" mark.

It's really hard to say but you do have a nice male.

Ok, my guess is this fish is a subadult. I think youre right about the range of age you're talking about, my experience with this spicies is very short not to say none....I have kept oscars before and most of my experience is with piranha, now Im done with piranha so i decided to get into these bad boys they are deffo some stunner fish...

Fish looks in excelent conditions and he's took over the tank just as soon as he touched it's water......Im gonna see if can get him a partenr..

What do you suggest to feed him in order him to get bulky.

Cheers.
