Texas Cichlid, some pictures.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He looks nice, its a shame about your Green Terror though but i suppose it could have been worse.

Good Luck.

Thanks Darren.

Yours is a Carpintis aka Green Texas. Wackas is a Cyano aka Texas Cichlid. Tbh, I hate common names.

Both fish...his and the other link are H. cyanaguttatus. Neither of those fish are Carpinte. Average for the fish in an aquarium is @ 10" Some can get larger.

Mo, Those spots on the OP's fish are too large and too tight together to be cyanno... also the color on a cyanno would be duller.. more of a gray. I know you keep or have kept several races of carpintis and the patterning is slightly different on all but I think this fish coincides closer to carpintis.

Interesting opinion, wouldnt it be the possibility he is an hybrid of both???

It was sold me as a carpintis but hinestly Im not 100% sure he's a carpintis.

Sorry to hear about the Gt but IMO you have the better looking fish...

Yes I think so too, moreover this fish has more personalluity than a terror.

Cheers.

I agree with him NOT being a Cyanoguttatus - the spots are just too large.
I actually see a dark blotch in the dorsal fin in a few of the pictures, indicating a female. Updated pictures would help.

Interesting!!!. Taking a second glance youre maybe right he is atually a female, dorsal and anal fin arent as large as they should be if this fish were a male....

So what do you guys think???..male or female????

the dark blotch isn't always reliable as i have seen a breeding pair of carpinte and the male had the black dot its dorsal aswell as the female. Im no expert but if your really dying to know just vent it...good luck its a great looking fish no matter what

Ya know what....you're right. The first fish is Carpinte. Sorry for the misquote.

Here's picture of one of my Cyanaguttatus. I always look at the pearling. Color isn't always a good indicator...especially in photos. Color balance and other factors can really skew it one way or another.

After I read your response I looked at it again...then at one of mine...and it was obvious. Like I have said many times, I've been wrong before. Thanks for catching it.
