So for a dovii I'm going to need a deeper tank I guess what I'm asking is final footprint of a tank for a dovii. I'm assuming that it's 50/50 for a male. Also that if given the room it will get to it's max size 25"-30"+. So at least a 3' tank for turnaround but are they really all that active by that point that they would need a 8' wide tank that's 3' deep and at least I would guess 29" tall?? And no tank mates. Now if I ended up with a female what would the foot printneed to look like?? And possible tank mates?? I understand this is all theoretical and a lot depends on well the fish it self=P you know the thing that doesn't exist as of right now=P .

As for the Texas I was leaning more towards a blue Texas but I kinda thought blue and green were the same just depends on what your lfs is calling them so red blue and green are there any other color variations I should be aware of ??

I think with a male Dovii an 8'x3' footprint would be okay. A female would be fine in a 240 which is 8'x2'.
For the Texas, the "Red Texas" is actually a hybrid and not a true Texas. The green Texas is a Heirichthys Carpinte, also called a "pearlscale cichlid" and then there's Heirichthys Cyanoguttatum which is a nice gray color with smaller spots than the Carpinte and it has less color. The green Texas or Carpinte has a lot of blue hues in it's "pearls" so it's the same fish. Hope this helps

I have an Escondido and really love her coloring. She's with a larger flowerhorn and bleekeri amongst other fish in a 210. Don't think you could go wrong with a Texas. You could throw some schoolers in with it like some loaches. Never owned a dovii but they look like cool fish. Good luck with your decision.
