So if you've been looking at the recent threads you know that I "accidently" was sold a Texas cichlid rather than a Green Terror. I'm trying to decide if I am going to keep it or not. I've read a lot of bad stories about them but I love their look as they grow. I'd appreciate any stories and pictures about your experiences with a Texas. It'd share a tank with a few other cichlids like a JD, FM, and yet to be decided. The tank will be around 125 to 150 gallons when they grow to size a bit. Thanks for the help.

I kept two in a 260 with other central and south Americans a while ago and they weren't too bad at all, they were about 7-8". To be honest they're like other American cichlids, each fish has their own personality. I would hang onto it and see how things go, you can always sell it later if it starts to show aggression.

That's good to hear. I would definetly like to keep it and the tank mates will definitely be able to protect themselves if need be. What cichlids were they with for you?

Had mine with a riv, firemouth, two Oscars, Jack dempsey, female jaguar and some others, can't remember all of them just now.

Once the Texas is within an inch of the fm I believe it would be easy pickings for the texas. Jd I wouldn't worry about... every Texas I've kept has gone off the deep end at around 5 inches
Texas, yes, but IME, Green Texas are chumps. Everytime I ever had a carpintis they were punks. He has a carpinits, like I had/have and mine are submissive to fish half their size. I very much believe that cyannoguttatum is quite the aggressor, however

I wouldn't say Texas cichlids are any worse than a GT. IME, the GT was far more aggressive than my Texas.
