Texas Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In natural habitats where carpintus are found, often times they are the only cichlid in the area.
In some others the only other cichlids are the very aggressive labridens group.
This should be an indication of how they should be kept.
When I have seen habitats where JDs are common, and healthy, no other cichlid is present. Whenever other cichlids are present, the JDs suffer and are very few in numbers.
Although many people try to keep various cichlids together in community cichlid tanks, if you look at how they live in nature, you may find, some just don't belong together, unless housed in very large quarters. I realize this goes against many peoples grain, but an observation, that to me seems relevant.
Below is an example of a mixed JD uropthalmus habitat. Note the population of uros compared to JDs, and available space.
