I have a large pleco that I've been trying to get to eat zucchini for some time now with no success. My texas (carpintis) cichlid loves it though. It eats a substantial amount each time I put it in the tank. It's the first cichlid I've had to do this.

Ever seen this before?
Is this harmful in any way?

The cyan has been observed eating aquatic plants in nature, so I doubt the zucchuni will be harmful. I've seen lots of cichlids munch on it when thrown in for the plecos.

I've always given my BP's zucchini and cucumber... they love it.. the africans like it too... they all seem to like the cucumber so much more..

Pretty sure mine did it when I was feeding my royals zuch. He turned out okay.

They are omnivores. They like it, and a lower protein diet is good for them.

i dont think it would be harmful..but have you ever stabbed the zucchini with a fork so it sinks?

Even then my cichlids eat it, doesn't really matter if it floats or not.:)

I've never heard of this but it does sound logical. How would you go about giving plecos/cichlids zucchini? Do you cook it? Drop it in raw? I would like to try this and im sure my pleco would like it.
