I've never heard of this but it does sound logical. How would you go about giving plecos/cichlids zucchini? Do you cook it? Drop it in raw? I would like to try this and im sure my pleco would like it.
Just raw and I use a spoon to make it sink. Don't really like using a fork. Indeed plecos love it.

No, no need to cook.. I've never poked mine to make it sink.. the cichlids will pick at it while it floats.. and will eventually sink with some time and poking at ... if they don't eat all of it by the next day I come home from work..I will take it out... just for water quality purposes...

Personally i slice it into full length strips. Then i have a "chip bag clip" that was designed with a suction cup on it and i clip the zucchini right to the front glass. usually when their done it's nothing but the rind left.

I always stab a chunk with a fork and put it in the tank.

I've had plecos that could detect it (by smell I guess), find it, and be eating it within a minute. I even had one that I could just hold the zucchini under the surface of the water and it would eat it while I held it.

This one is just stubborn, I'm starting to get worried that it's not getting enough to eat with the new inhabitants in the tank hogging everything.

A really easy way to make them sink is to lightly blanch them. The easiest way to do this is to throw a bit of water in a cup in the microwave. It gets really hot in under a minute. Just dunk the vegetable for about 10-20 seconds and it will sink.
