i was at my LFS today, and he had just gotten in some type of cross between a texas, and some type of severum. (judging by the stripes im thinking green.) and he only wanted like $3 for one, so i bought it. lol and i was wondering if anybody had any experience with something like this, to know what its temperment would be like, and any pics of what it would look like when mature wiould be amazing. thanks.

no, my camera is broken. but he has a few spangles like a tex, and is similar in color to a tex, but he has stripes, similar to a green sev.

I bet its a Convict or T-Bar hybrid with a Texas variety.

Severums cannot breed outside of the Heros genus.

yeah its prolly mixed with a con or something, like stated severums cant breed outside their genus and even if they could, texas are central american and severums are south american and cichlids usually cant interbreed with fish from that different of an area

Tex x Con is certainly more likely . . . based on what I've seen, the general result is a grey striped fish (like a Con), with some spangles and colored fins (like a Tex)

if a severum tries to breed with anything outside its genus the fry would probably come out like a blood parrot or maybe the fry wont hatch at all.its probably conXtexas or maybe even jack dempsey and texas

I know this is an old thread. But currently I have crossed a male red spotted severum with a Electric Blue Carpintis Cichlid. Fry hatched 4 days ago. They have been separated from the parents and put into a grow out tank.
