Thai Silk flowerhorn with sa/ca cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also, I might just be in a good mood today, got 105% on my (college) math midterm, got a massage and took a nap. I suggest you try those last two things if you're feeling extra frustrated with MFK today. ;)

That's a good start. :)

When I started keeping fish I did some stupid stuff too. We all start somewhere. Just make sure to actually make the changes and not just talk about them. Good luck.

thai silk imo is the best looking fh there is. its morem of a show fh/ i have 2 each in there own tank. im unaware of your stock and i read the first 2 pages and all i see is fighting.... dumb. i personaly would not add a thai silk to a community. id display them in there own tank cause there so amazing. also ive had many fh in my day and my male fh is so dayum mean i wouldnt rish him with any of my fish but a rosey for him to eat. there are pleanty of cichlids that u can get away with in a community but i wouldnt try a fh of any kind. any hybrid for that matter is not a good idea. it is your fish and i understand wanting to have it in a community but i vote no. this is of course a vote. i wont flame you whatsoever if you choose to do so. im just saying id enjoy a thai silk male in a 100n gal by himself with 1/4 of the tank divided with a window shopper for a female and thats all!. good luck with whatever you decide!

sorry if u think my question if i could put a flowerhorn in my tank is stupid i have done research on flowerhrons but i have not read any info on if thye are compatible with sa/ca fish and i know each flowerhorn type is has different aggresion levels than another , i just wanted to know if i could get 1 if i lessen my stock
its all good. heres your answer. as a responsible fishkeeper, never add a fh of anytype to a community setting. jmo! there not right in the head............

I am glad you are at least on a path to lessen your stock. It means you are at least taking some of the advice given to you on board. Don't think you are the only one that has had more fish than they are actually capable of keeping. Any experienced fish keeper has been there at some point. The best advice I can give anyone is to always remember we are fish keepers, not fish havers. Keep your tanks stocked on the lighter side. Your fish will be far better off for it. They will be much better in looks, size and health. It will also be a more rewarding fish keeping experience from this sort of practice. You will also get way more compliments from this than any over stocked tank you keep. To be totally honest, I generally find the people that compliment grossly overstocked tanks are usually either new to fish keeping, inexperienced or aren't the ones you want to be congratulated from to start with. Always remember, fish keeper and not fish haver.;)

BayArea_510,

I got to say man your threads get many responses. Yes, some of them make me feel like I'm watching Jerry Springer, but lots of responses. I will also have to say that a FH, of any kind, is not a good choice for a community setting. I tried once with a " Flying Dragon" FH and he was crazy as hell. Once I put him into his own tank his color really started to pop and all my SA/CA were a lot more happy too. It lasted a whole week in with other fish before I needed to take him out. As others have said, it is good to see you taking some of the advice on here... there are some very knowledgable fish keepers on here who have been doing this for a long time. I will pick their brain whenever I can can and you should too. Good luck with your tanks and keep us all updated on what your final stock will look like. When are you getting the 360g??

When I started in this hobby I used to want to keep one of every cichlid too, heck I still do. I used to have more tanks, now I'm down to two larger tanks and four small tanks. We have to pick our fave's according to how many tanks and space we have. You can always keep your next favorite later on when space becomes available or you get more tanks. Also remember some fish are best off in solo or species only tanks. Not every cichlid is a community fish.

BayArea, good luck...keep asking questions even if people talk down to you, we all have to start somewhere. I didn't have the internet with awesome fish forums when I first started keeping fish so you should see some of the stupid stuff I did. I tried to keep a Green Terror with a shoal of Discus in a 55g. Soon enough, I had no Discus, just a big oversized glass banging GT in a tank too small for it. That's when I started buying more tanks....then came the fabulous internet.
