In Asia, Flowerhorns/Arowanas = Art

In America, Cichlids = Pet
flowerhorn and arowanas are also fengshui/luck to Chinese's belief, i just don't get why the US prohibites super red asia arowana, jardini and african arowana are aggressive too but yet they aren't labeled as endangered species.

Asian aros are prohibited and endangered because of their low numbers in the wild not because of their aggression level.

ah to protect them? in asia they will probably eat it if someone catch it, but if they import to the US, we can breed more of them. sry for off topic.

I know a couple of Flowerhorn breeders in Thailand and they will growout 100s of FHs at a time then select the best 10 out of a batch and grow them out to see how they will turn out. They mainly take the time to let them grow out to see what the best ones will look like. They also wait until the fish is 2-3" long to see if it will have a water KoK or not. If they show potential they keep them and dump the rest. I have bought tons of fish from Lakefish and Rainybetta. Both of them are great guys. You can give them a shout on messenger if you ever have questions. Out of every 100 fish you will only get a couple of descent FHs. They just take the time to select the best ones. I'm kind of out of the hybrid thing now, but still love the looks of a gnarly Flowerhorn.

The Asian countries spend a great deal & time line breeding, culling & perfectioning their breeds. To us, breeding a fish is just breeding a fish. It's as simple as that. But to the them, it's what they know. It's their life. It's how they make a living.. Take the Bonsai tree for example. It takes a small tree 25-30 years of constant training and pruning to be consider show quality. Some trees are even past down from generation to generations, and are as old as 100+ years! The Koi fish has been line bred for centuries from the common grass carp to obtain it's amazing colors. They are too past down from generations to generations. From Grandpa to Father to son and so forth.. The goldfish has been breed to perfection. In Japan, they have schools that are dedicated in the art of breeding & caring for the Ranchu goldfish. Sort of like college.. They spend their whole entire life doing what they do, and they do it to perfection. We could learn a great deal from these Asian breeders. And that my friend, is why the high quality fishes always comes from Asia.

100% agree. Look at the state dom. kois. Ugly...very ugly versus imported
