Hey all, My juvi carpet isn't eating, after talking to other MFKers i know the reason why and he'll be fine. Anyway, when he doesn't eat i throw the thawed rat back in the freezer and use it again the next week. I have done this about 3 times with 1 particular rat. Is it okay if i keep thawing and re-freezing it? when the snake decides to eat i don't wanna make him sick with a lousy rat. Thanks for the advice.

I have done it but my animals don't usually take them.

Once isn't bad, twice you'll end up with a big pile of blood, guts and goo if the animal does decide to eat..........The Rat isn't "bad" persay, but you end up with a Rodent balloon, ready to pop........

I have done it but dont refreeze more than once, My corns will eat a re thawed mouse with not much problem as long as it looks ok and no blood or bloating.

when you say no blood do you mean blood coming out of the nose and mouth of the rat?

I agree with the above...

refreezing once is fine, but multiple times is asking for issues...

One issue is the rodent becomes a bag of blood and guts that is easily popped. You can have blood and other inside juices ooze out fo the rodents mouth & nose, but it may also pop when constricted which is truly nasty.

I just toss if they don't eat. Seems after being warmed up to temp then cool again then warm again would stir up the bacteria in the rats gut, start to rot. Plus if you warm up the rat in water all the delicious rodent stank will get washed off after all those tries.

Have you tried the stinky box technique?

Lol, ew. I hear vinegar and water clears that right up. JK

Ask the petstore for some dirty litter from the rat cages and stick it in the box next time you try feed. Maybe mist it with a little water and pop a heat pad under the box so its really ripe.
