the 2011 lake sturgeon count thread

i have had a few requests for this thread to be made so it is now close enough to get the ball rolling on it. the thread from last year is in my sig. it is still alittle early for it, but they are just around the corner. i hope to get out more then last year, with many more pics to show for it.

in the last few rounds of upgrades some pics and posts got lost of many sturgeons that we caught.

first venture out and the sturgeon catchin has begun!!

i didn't get any sturgeons myself this trip, just some large 3-5lbs redhorse. my friend got 2. one 18" and one 46" beastie. so here goes the count


1x 18" lake sturgeon
1x 46" lake sturgeon

season total=02

thanx, the big one was the first bite of the river season. i can't wait to see what this season brings. the last time we got a larger one this early we had many large ones break our lines before the spring run was up. hopefully i will get some more monsters for this thread. i know i will get more sturgeons, just the size is the only question.so far my average of 1-3 sturgeons a trip is maintained.

got out a few more times and got another mid 40" and a 8" fish. no pics of the small one and i have to talk to my friend about the other big one. when we got the 8" fish we saw a guy land a 42" sturgeon at the boat launch.

we went out two days ago(thursday) and caught 6 more. only got pics of the big one and one small one. while we were there the mndnr was electro-fishing so we called them over to tag 3 of the small sturgeons witch was sweet to see/do. also my big one was tagged aswell, still waiting on the info to come back from the dnr on it. we also managed to get the catch and release on film so i have a vid of me catching the 44" tagged beauty!

the details:

4x lake sturgeon 15-17"
1x lake sturgeon 20"
1x lake sturgeon 44"

brings our total to 10

i may also be missing one other big one. to bring the total to 11. i think my friend got a 42 and a 45.5" fish this year and i have only counted the 42" fish in the count.

also since the change i can't seem to find how to change my sig so any input on that would be nice.

obviously you are tossing them back, but are they legal to keep, or is it catch and release fishing only?

Lake sturgeon are decreasing in numbers im sure everywhere. here the numbers have dropped 80% but i've still managed to accidently catch two beasts, the first one was 47" long and the second was around 60"
