The german greyhound liner TSS Bremen from the Nordeutscher Lloyed. She was bigger than Titanic and faster than the Mauretania. She was special in almost evry aspect. She was the first big ship with a bulbous bow. Her power and speed were legendary. She was also famous for her sleakness. No other liner looked so powerful yet elegant. In a storm her bow often cut through the waves and dived completly under water.

A special feature was a mail plane attached on her main deck. The plane was launched with a catapult and landed in New York one day before arrival:

Many famous people travelled on her like Leni Riefenstahl, Albert Einstein and Marlene Dietrich. I think it was a great experience to travel on that liner and the others of that era. I think it is sad we don´t have that today anymore.

Lounge has turned into history lessons eh?

No question, no theory, not even asking for opinions......just a presentation of a mixture of fact and opinions? What were your intentions with the thread?

Hey Darius, do you have a model of this one too?

You say, "I think it is sad we don´t have that today anymore."

I could not disagree with you more. A quick comparison of the the QM2 alone shows a vastly superior ship that we have today. Sure the boat was nice for its day but saying it is sad we don't have that today anymore is like saying it is sad we don't drive model T Fords today.

The SS Normandie is still considered the most powerful steam turbo-electric passenger liner ever built and could outperform the Bremen with more than 6 times its HP and launched only 4 years later.
