The advantage of using red fishing line?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Power pro is by far my favorite braided line a little expensive compared to others but definately worth it. It has the feel of mono when your casting, with all the advantages of braid. Really good line.

Never tried red line though bass really aren't leader shy so I never worry about it.

it all turns black.

ive done alot of tests with different line in diving pools and at the beach.

the color red does fade out,but all the othere colors that are in the dye to make it red show up...eventually, at around 80ft, it just turns black, same with blue, green, clear, smoke, etc...

plus the cajun is so stiff and has too much memory to fill up a spool w/ it. i use it as shock leaders for its abrasion resistance, but thats about it.

Last summer, I went out for goldeye at a local "hot spot".

I had a small sonar unit and located what any fisherman would call a sure thing, had my fresh live local bait, a freshly wound spool of invisible 2lb line on my ultralite reel attached to my super-ultralite rod.

An old Chinaman was sitting on the other side of the river with a piece of string tied to his finger, using a pop-bottle as a bobber, and a chunk of noodle for bait.

He outfished me 5 to 1 all night.

Red line, green line, 1/4" nylon rope. I don't think the fish are really that smart either way. I've never seen a fish come up along my line and check out what was on the other end before taking a bait.

Many people think like this. Fish are smarter than you think. World Record sized fish don't become like that because they are stupid. They've most likely had to dodge TONS and TONS of fisherman to get where they are today. There's science to it. I feel that alot of people that say this don't think seriously enough about fishing. So what he caught 5-1. I'm sure you could have done that too. He could have been in a better spot. There is so much thinking that goes into fishing. It almost upsets me sometimes to see people say things like this. It makes me feel like people don't give enough credit to the people that can consistently go fish. Fishing to me is like keeping monster fish to say JohnPTC or someone who has extreme knowledge. I know that when I go fishing I don't only fish but everyday I am studying how to catch more, bigger and better fish. I can send anyone out to catch a striped bass. But they aren't going to go out and catch trophy sized fish, it takes alot of serious studying to learn how these fish behave, when they are going to eat the best, how you can entice them to eat even when they're not hungry, migration pattern, etc etc...

All I'm saying is that there is ALOT more to fishing then just going to a spot with bait and catching them. There are now THOUSANDS of different types of lures and they will all work at diff times and diff scenerios. There is just so much science in it that people don't really understand.
Phew. haha

Thanks for listening.
And I'm not just BSing. I've been fishing my whole life and own a Bait and Tackle shop. I talk to some of the best fisherman on the East Coast and have fished with the likes of Frank Mundus.

I agree with you 100% Gonzaga. There is tons of studying that goes with fishing. These bass pros didnt get where they are today by just mess around with a fishing pole. You do need to study up on the diffrent ways of fishing and conditions. Breeding, feeding behave, Water temp etc. Its alot of work to get the big ones. I can go and get a bunch on 1lb-2lb bass. Yeah thats fun but thats not going to win you no tourny.

I to totally agree with you. As I have said before on here “Big carp are very clever” We have certain “trophy” fish in the UK Big carp 40lb+ we have anglers fishing for them all year round as some years those big ones never get caught then bang out the blue he turn up 5lb bigger. There certainly eating but not getting caught. Sounds like a clever fish to me:D .
Angler develop more and more complex rigs and methods to fish them now its becoming a science. I did a thread on here a while back about bait boats we are developing more devious and precise ways to catch theses fish and yes they work for a while then they get wise. Baits that will take it apart one year cant get you a bite the next as I say there is something to there survival instinct these big fish are 30+ years old and grew up with pike a perch to get to that size in that time you have got to be lake wise:naughty: .
