The age of gender...?

As I've learned you are able to sex the bichirs by looking for the "muscle" under the back fin... By the time he was full grown my Senegal was quite obviously male... Well endowed I guess you can say...

I'm wondering on the larger fish like the Ornates and Endli, how long or "big" should they be before determining gender?

6" is a good size, but some females have um, chunky muscle down there and it can be confusing.
