as you know volume means little, youll be limited on some rays. is the footprint 8'x3' or 8'x4' if you have a 4' wide then you dont have much limitations.

if it becomes a problem it is to late. you should think if a potential $1000 fish is worth a risk that is a 99% gonna be a problem. just like plecos. i love flagtails but never can have one do to my gars.

Volume is very important as it adds to water stablity. I will only go with rays that won't outgrown my tank's footprint(8x3') nor will I be spending $1000 one any. As for the flagtail, there are a few that are currently keeping the combo. I would doubt that the flagtail would kill the ray instantly. As I said, if it becomes a problem he will be moved, but not until the problem arises.

What no brachyura or giant Mekong ray??? I think an otorongo would look sweet in that setup everyone has motoros, pearls, bds and henlei it seems. So go different plus I love the jaguar. Ooooh or some antenna if you can find them those would be SWEET in an aro tank think of those long tails!!!! Sorry the pics aren't mine came off google images. Man I would love to own a group of antenna!!!

it does, but it is tough to have very fast changes in your 450 as it sits. it is unnecessary to link them all together, but if you plan on it then go for it. it would be beneficial for the lack of equipment in the main displays. i was sarcastic toward footprint vs volume. maybe you can make some purple aros with the blacks and silvers.

my point was, for myself at least, i veiw them as to sensitive to risk it. if they get over stressed they will die faster then your average fish. i know you are researching them, but i am just trying to save you the trouble on this part. the rule of thumb is they shouldn't be with rays. just like aros and gar. not great together, but some(including myself) have had success with it. you do have the ability to separate, but if the ray is stressed from the move then it could not take much to push it over the edge. just sayin.

it isn't hard to spend that much in rays. i have spend that on them going the cheap route. personally i would go with marbles or hystrix for a cheaper, yet nice looking ray group. then your tank will be fine for them for life as well. black rays are nice but they will outgrow that tank at sum point.
