which means they may be able to tolerate colder water, much colder.

does anyone have information on their breeding size and any records of captive breeding?

Youre very right (as always lol), Parts of Paraguay and Argentina are in temperate regions. It doesnt snow or really freeze but winter nights will and do dip into low 40s upper 30s. Ive read somewhere that in parts of the Rio Paraguay there are massive piranha die offs due to the cold.

Wes, start importing again and bring stuff back from Paraguay and Argentina! Not only the largest ray (P brachychura) is from the region but also what is my personal opinion one of the smallest, the TRUE P. hystrix. There are some really small rays Ive seen out of Paraguay and Argentina that resemble the holotype P. hystrix originally described out of Beuanos Aires. The fish out of Brazil does not, IMO, resemble the holotype.

Also there are dorado in both countries along with some awesome hoplias species!

Falkeri get large 20+ easy and are very aggressive rays, Richard Ross has a breeding pair and they cant be kept with any other rays as they are so aggressive even towards each other I was told. They are also not easy to find down there even if you know exporters most very rarely have these available.

I know that there are some very common and easy to find rays at least in Paraguay. My inlaws are from Ascuncion, Paraguay and my father inlaw told me about this lake they fished in that was just full of stingrays, there was so many they killed everyone they caught and he said some here huge, like a meter across. ( I take that with a grain of salt though). Ive shown him pictures of various rays to try and get an ID but sadly he says they all look the same too him. lol

Nice pics and great info guys....
