The best bio balls to use

i find that bio ball are a waste of money, well in my case they are. where i live bio balls sell for 3-5 pesos each, so i use pot scrubbers and lava rock for my sump

Awesome. Lava rocks are pretty much the same exact thing as Bio-Max except way cheaper!

I have used pot scrubbies for the past 8 years and they work great and are cheap. I have used them in everything from hob filters to full sumps.

+1 I put them along with extra sponges in all my HoBs and I have about 70 plus a ton of bio-balls in my sump.

Bio balls are a waste of space IMO. You can get bags of pot scrubbies from the dollar store and they have several times the amount of surface area. If cost isn't a huge issue, I would recommend Matrix or Pond Matrix --->or both.
