I'm the proud papa of a Crocodile Monitor (Varanus salvadorii).

I saw a guy post on Craigslist, saying he wanted to sell it, but gave no price. I called him up and he said he wanted $1500 for it and I said forget it. Ended up, over the course of this week, talking him into a trade.

This thing is 7' long and weighs in right at 50lb. The guy was really nice, living up in Northern Missouri. Bought it, on a whim, when it was 14" long (paid $800), for his daughter and 18 months later, he had a 7' monster on his hands. He talked about how it's puppy dog tame and will eat from your hand, blah blah blah but when my girlfriend and I went to pick him up, the guy was scared to death of it...telling us to be carefuly cause he could bite your hand off. I just picked him up, carried him to the van and he chilled in the back, the whole way home. He did take a big dump, which caused my girlfriend to start uncontrollably gagging...that was funny stuff.

Anyway...just ranting cause I'm REALLY excited. I've been looking for one of these forever, but was always dissapointed when I saw how expensive they were, just for juveniles.

I haven't gotten pics yet...I'm just letting him get used to being here, before we start messing with him too much. He took a swipe at my hand, when I was getting him out of the car and after I almost crapped down both legs, I thought it'd be better for me to let him get settled before I started flashing pics in his face.

I'll have pics tomorrow!!!

Wow, what a purchase! They are definitely a beautiful, large varanid. What size enclosure do you have for it? Can't wait to see some pics!

He's got his own 18' L x 12' W room, in my basement. Climate controlled, half arboreal setup, with a 6' long pond.

Sweet deal!!! Sounds like a great setup! Let's see some pics of this monster. Yeah, dragon doo stinks horribly.

lol cant wait to see some pics!!!!!! sounds awsome!!!!

The previous owner fed nothing but chicken livers and chicken gizzards, with no kind of calcium supplement, nothing. So, he's a fatty. He's gonna be switched over to whole foods...rabbits and pigs (which my large Burms eat), chickens, quail and ducks.

PICTURES!!...
