Not quite done, yet. Got all of the supplies but waiting on the waterproofer to dry and cure, on the floor and walls.

Yeah...I couldn't believe just how over weight he was.

I've kept reptiles for quite a long time but have never had one that was overweight (especially to this extent).

Is there anything that'd suggest, to safely drop his weight, other than feeding better foods and supplementing?

One of those pictures shows what looks like blood on the side of it's mouth.. Right after the pictures of your hand next to him.. ;) lol. Nice pickup.

He does have blood on his mouth.

Their teeth, which are much different than other Monitor species, are serrated and extremely sharp.

When they eat, open their mouth, etc, their teeth are so sharp, they cut their own gums.

Completely common and normal...weird, tho.

Oh my he is beautiful. Cant wait til you get some pics of the enclosure up here. So what did you trade for him?

Absolutley gorgeous pickup:D:headbang2As for tips into getting its weigth down what about some exercise;) Let him starve between meals, put the food in bits around the enclosure so that he has to serch for it, put a dead mouse in a grabber and make him clim up and down for it, give him the chance to swim, etc. I dont like it but perhaps even some live feeding would be good for him for estimuli and exercise(more experienced lizard people please if this is wrong for some reason Im not seeing say it:confused:)

Just do the normal, Hottest spot @ 120 or so use a bank of lights so the basking area runs all along the body to help it increase its metabolism. Also keep it quite humid in there no less than 70% and make sure the temps stay rather warm in the ambients of the cage. Take a temp gun and fire away at every nook and cranny and make sure the temps dont drop below 80. Feed whole food items like you mentioned, provide ALOT of climbing material, shelves large branches scatter them diagonally horizontal upright and straight across. The temps and the constant excercise are the only two things that can save this guy. Feed 2x a week and then slowly increase as you see it slimming down.

Actually that is incorrect, Salvadorii and some indicus complex monitors secrete blood from their gums because of some sort of stimultion/arousal. It is not because they lacerate their gums while eating. They could develope serious infections in their mouths if that was the case.
