The best sand?

If you DO use play sand, put it through a net first, so that all the rocks that are not super small get pulled out, so that it is a pure sand, that is very very very small.
 
Clay is an awful substrate for reptiles and I dont know why zoomed condones it. Not only is it not breathable, but it turns hard as a rock.

Tyler im going to disagree with you both of these choices. Theyre both bad... and they suck humidity out of the tank which is something a young dragon needs to stay hydrated.
 
doesn't sand get impacted? use coco fiber
 
Cypress mulch if you can get it, if you go with mulch stay away from the red cedar stuff. Though granted I'm from the old school when you just didn't see product made specifically for herps and we had to make do.
