I've always fed my green arowana with MP and SW, this time i want to give him some live fish. so what is the best way to quarantine the feeder fish before being fed to my green arowana?

Just use frozen fish fillets.
I also heard gold-fish are really fatty + may introduce diseases.

BUT if you really want to use feeders, put them in a seperate tank for 2-3 weeks.
Also you might want to give them a quick bath in something, like salt etc.

I would quarantine them for 2-4 weeks, just to be on the safe side. Also, I would try and train your Green to accept pellets, much easier and healthier in the long run IMO.

I have read aloto f articles that feeding aros live food keeps the aggressive streak and activeness present.
i believe its a good thing for them, just once n a while.

how i quarantine:
have a hospital tank,in that put melafix, keep the feeders inthere for 2 weeks, feed them good pellets to gut load them, and the trace elements to be in their bodies. so when the aro eats them, it all goes in the aro.
I soak the pellets in garlic guard, then after a couple of weeks, i feed the aro.

if it comes from a reputable pet shop, it should be ok anyways.

If you want feeders to be a part of your Aro's diet, the best option would be to breed fish (convicts are a good choice). Set up one tank for a pair of cons and at least one more to grow out the fry.

What feeder you give to your aro?

Hi aro lover:

i buy jsut cheap gold fish and quarantine them. Before feedng i feed thm really high quality food, same stuff i feed my disuss and same pellets i stuff into my shrimps prior feeding to the aro.
so when the aro eats them, they are gut loaded!
tadpoles are good too.
but generally i stick to prawns cos its cheaper and easier

A kilo of frozen shimp buys you 100 3-4cm farm fry (tilapia, carp variants etc) .... that is 2 bucks... you do get more meat from shrimp i think :D

I wonder if soaking/bathing feeders in something potent like malachite green (formalyn) then waiting awhile would lead to accumlation of toxins in the feeder with potentially deadly effect on the end user (aro)

I don't think breeding fish for aro consumption is effective ... wayyy to lengthy.

Its protein in the food which really matters. For beautiful coloration, you should stick to high-quality sticks/pellets & MP.

I feed home-bred guppies to my Greenie sometimes.
