The Best Wet Pets

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Overall the couple of best Wet Pets I've had was my RTC and my oscar fish. My red tail would always follow me around the room and even come to my hand from across the tank to rub against me. He would sit in the tank mouth half out of the water and wait for me to toss smelt or tilapia in there .. He was always easy to handle even letting me transport him at 24 inches across the house to a bigger tank with no net... The oscar was just as personable each had a unique personality

I know this is an old thread but I would still like to ask some questions:

My former bgk. Poor girl went to the pond in the sky after a vicious pleco fight caused collateral damage.

I think she could feel the vibrations of me walking by because anytime I'd approach the tank, despite being a mostly blind species, she'd be front and center "spy hopping" before I could even get the lid open. I could hand feed, pet, even hold her. Gosh I miss that fish.

Currently my most personable fish is a BP that can't figure out if it likes me or if I'm scarier than facing down a pack of famished ally cats lol

I keep my BGK with a Pleco and the 2 of them have been going at it lately (BGK always ends up destroying the plecos find and then swimming the hell out of there)

Almost any large enough puffer hands down... My fahaka is literally like a puppy that lives underwater... Greets me everytime i come home, watchesTV with me etc... Great fish with tons of personality...
What could I do with a fahaka in a 150 gallon tank?

What dimensions are the tank, coz ideally i would say 6x2 would be a bare minimum for a fahaka to be able to stretch out and enjoy the tank while having a lot of decor...

A 150 maybe doable and the fish will possibly survive (depends again on dimensions) but i still am not sure i’d recommend it...

Oscars are definitely tops IMO, but there are lots of very common, super easy to keep fish that can have puppy like personalities. I have a kissing gourami that loves attention and have had angel fish and bettas like that too.

It is 6 x 1 1/2 x 2

The 18” width will really be pushing it if you end up with one that grows slightly above average size... normally they hit around 16-17” as it is, so might start getting potentially cramped as it matures...

Fahaka could live in your tank for a long time (I think that's actually a 125 btw- 150 are more like 30 tall) but are unpredictable as far as tankmates. I have seen some that live with many other fish, but I have also heard of them chopping anything up that hits the water. And with their sharp beaks, there aren't many fish that would win a fight with a fahaka.

I know it is a 150 cause I checked using the calculator on this website. I just don't quite remember my dimensions: when I get home I will measure and let you know :)

a 150 should be 6'x18"x24"...think the 125 is 6'x18"x20". lol you know these things when youre constantly shopping fish tank prices.

but to answer the thread my flowerhorn and midevil are pretty well tied for most personable fish ive had. these fish seem to have real personalities and have actually displayed some sense of reasoning and intelligence. oscars are nice but i think theyre iust hungry all the time.

I wouldn't suggest a fahaka in anything under 2' depth. Puffers need more room.
