this is what im talkin bout... lenses... setups thats what i wanted to hear more about.

whos got some suggestions for me? Im buy a new lens soon... got about 250-300 bucks to spend... all i have right now is the standard 18-55 on my canon 400D... but i dont know alot bout lenses.

I do a lot of macro shots so i definitly want something with a short minimum focus length... but i also wanna have a bit of leeway for if i wanna zoom in on somethin...

You probably would have to shop used to find a macro lens in that price range. Real macro lens are only found in a single focal length which means no zooms. For big tanks like you have you might want to look at macro lenses in the 90-100mm focal length range. I hear the Tamron 90mm is a pretty good lens and you should be able to find one in a canon mount. You should also be able to find a canon macro lens near the same range but probably for more money. Go to www.photozone.de for lens reviews.

Nikon D200 (10.2 MP), Aperture Software, IMac, and HP photosmart 8700.

All four are setup with the same sRGB filters so what you actually take a pic of is what you are editing in the software, viewing on the display, and eventually printing or converting for web or digital delivery.

Im sort of late to this thread...so what does a newbie ( like me ) have to do to take good looking macro shots without breaking the bank ?

Im looking to get a Canon EOS 350D .... any lens recommendation for macros and one for general use ?

Thank you for bringing up this thread again..just what i was looking for!!! :D:D

Check out B&H Photo on line. By far the best prices on lens. They also sell used. If you look at Tamron or Vivitar you should get a break on the price.

Thanks ! My friend also recommends that place. Its also local to me so ill check it out. I am such a noob at this stage though..i need to do more research on what to get. I am leaning towards a Rebel XT for the body.. .great rep and good sale on amazon.

I got the canon f2.8 100mm macro lense-I couldn't be happier with the results of this lense....

General use-Dont know how much you want to get into photography-But nothing compares to an L series lense from canon.....I bought many lenses over the last few months to only find out I have wasted a ton of money----Just get a nice general lense in a l series and one wont go wrong-They are pricey though-But my new 70 to 200 f2.8L will be the only other lense on my camera-Besides the macro...

Now I got a ton of gear to sell.....

B&H got the 100mm f2.8 macro for just over the $300 mark....Can find them used there from time to time in the $250 to $300 range depending on care/condition of the lense.....
