Next time there is a "new" carpintis (at least in name) on the market, perhaps they will supplant festae as the cool thing to keep and people will get excited about them again ;)

I see. I've been looking around and I haven't seen any Vontehillos for sale for quite some time... have they just stopped using the name? I haven't seen Escondido's for sale (from reputable sources anyway) either though.

Do you have a hunch yourself Matt? You seem fairly versed on the topic...

I really like carpintis I have kept a few trying to keep them in community setting with more aggressive fish and it didnt work out I'll dedicate a tank to them one day beautiful fish

So do we just assume that these fish are wild caught from now on? I don't know about anyone else but this leaves a little left to be desired. I mean, Vontehillos... kind of a big gray area and a lot of questions. From emails and PM's it doesn't seem like anyone really wants to tackle this topic.
 
Uh, just the opposite - the burden of proof as far as I'm concerned is with demonstrating provenance to the wild. Else every fish in a fish store would be "wild"

For me, anything that comes from Conkel is "a big gray area"

Other people place great faith in his veracity.
