The Catfish Plague

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have catfish go 3-4 months without a feed. There are smaller fish in with them so I dont need to stress about it. (i know it will eat them before starving to death). There is nothing wrong with being concerned but if your water parameters are good and your catfish is growing then relax.

I have had good success with a product called Prazipro made by Hikari for treating Internal and External parasite infections. It will work even if the fish is not eating, does not effect the biological filter and is harmless to catfish and other fish. It is expensive but at this point since everything else appears to be ok IMO its the next step even without a clear diagnosis.

My ID went ten months without eating. I panicked and called Zoo's and some of the Seaworld people and Here is the answer I got. Keep the water chemicals as normal as they should be, do water changes more often than usual and add a little more than the usual dose of aquarium salt (if species can handle it) Try different foods. LIke I said earlier, I dont know why he does it but he does. as long as he looks healthy he is fine. Ever eat too much of a good thing and not want it for awhile. Only your fish will know when he's ready to eat. Some species are affected by the amount of daylight they get.Have you recently had a season change. Winter to summer or the other way around. It could be something, it could be nothing. Try a few things but not all at once. I wrote down what I did to keep track of his reactions (if any) he started eating after I ignored him for a week. Just dont panick. Keep yourself calm and watch him more closely.
