I think you misunderstood what I wrote, but I'll play along...
Would you like a world without war, because that's what Bernard Shaw was referring to when he said "quiet world." He wrote that during the height of WWI. Some of the blind patriotism in this thread reminded me of this quote and that's why I threw it out there. I personally think it's a bit foolish to think you are cool because some guy you never met and have no relation to other than the random coincidence of being born in the same geographic area wins a medal.
In regards to your communism comment, libraries are quiet...do they remind you of communism too?
Desirable genetics? Really? Ours is the most obese nation in the world. What's your mile time? How many pullups can you do?
I enjoy the olympics too, but it's the "my country is better than yours" mentality and the chest thumping that irritates me. That's not what the olympics are about. If I see an arrogant and disrespectful american competitor going up against someone who displays good sportsmanship, I will root for the "other" country, whatever country he/she may be from. A humble American...that seems to be an oxymoron these days, although I greatly appreciate the few that still display good sportsmanship and are able to lose with honor and more importantly win with grace.
You'll play along? OK. If you take a look around the world you will see that at least 90% of wars are civil and have nothing to do with patriotism. Since the beginning of time, long before sport or patriotism there have been wars.
I would venture to say that the Olympics expose us more to our similarities than differences.
As far as my gene pool and physical health. I'm very blessed. I look a decade younger than I actually am. Have above average Intelligence I'm very strong for My stature. And the kids in my neighborhood knock on my door when it's time to play. I run, hoop,ride scooters, skateboards, bikes and everything with them. Most men my age have beer bellies are balding and have creaky bones. I have none of the above.

Sorry that you are somehow overwhelmed by the negative posts. Most of us have been able to ignore them. And that's another thing I thank my gene pool for. I can remain level headed and express myself in an articulate enough way without having to rely on historical quotes for emphasis. As for libraries I like them quiet provided I can read whatever I want. That's another reason to be patriotic.
