oh betas i love and hate them.... but umm... he might of just had a swim bladder problem.... idk why but sometimes betas have problems with their swim bladders it's happened to several of mine you could of just put him in a separate tank/bowl and see how he did sometimes they recover sometimes they dont :/
 
Just lost the 1st fish I ever bought, he was a 6.5" Bala Shark that Ive have for almost a year now. He got what looked like Ich, treated him for it and a few days later he was swimming upside down ans died shortly after. Was such an awesome fish too, would always greet me when I walked up to the tank and did this kind of retarded dance lol.
