Earl May....a chain garden center around here...has a 6" + tiger oscar that is PIMP!! No torn fins...no HITH...nuthin...awesome fish. They want $20.00 for it...bit pricey...but it is a really nice oscar...so i dunno....:P

that's a pretty good size. you're right the price is a little high....but if the fish is callin to you, no price is too high.

Oscars were my first cichlids. I still like them. They are like dogs. When they are young, everybody likes them because they are cute and colorful. But when they get old, they get too big and messy.

yep and the bigger the tank, with other tankmates the more fun it is :D just hate looking at big oscars in a small tank. :angryfire

I have loved Oscars for years, had several, always buy one or 2 when ever I come back to the hobby. I have a 10 " in a 75G tank now, not sure if it is a male or female, but I am begining to think it is female. She will eat out of my hand, unfortunately I get bit every time, LOL. My son stuck his finger in the tank on a dare from his cousin, he got bit and she drew blood, LOL. My neice freaked out.

Just a few mins ago, I had turned the light on in the room with her tank and I heard he jumping around in the tank, LOL had to go and turn the light off.

I have a question, I am not quite sure what Stella means by "occelli". Could someone please explain this???

yeah, but the thing that confuses me is that you said that urs have a 'true' ocelli in their dorsal...i've only seen ocelli just infront of the caudual on oscars....

Well i got into the oscar thing when my dad took my bro and i took go down to a pet store. There were plenty of 12 inch oscars in thier bug show tank but the one we picked was in a 20 gallon becuase he was always fightin. I loves him he had hith torn fins , not great color a blind eye and was stunted at size 10 inches.but we loved him. We had him in 50 gallon and we got him back to health he was a eyesore but best personality ever so mean to everyone even me. He smashed everythig in his tank and killed many fish. I had him form age 5-12 then i got rid of him cuz i moved. People i gave him to kept him in a 90 to himself they liked him soo much. Im 14 now and just got a new oscar that is the oposite super freindly. 3 inch goaramis with him. I love oscars even though there common cuz no1s oscar is like mine. And no1s oscar is like urs. So truly they are different fish every time i get 1

Here's one of the pics I posted again with all of the ocelli circled in blue. This particular fish was owned by my husband about five years ago. On the side shown, he has four ocelli (with the ones on the dorsal not being quite as cleanly defined as those on the caudal peduncle and on the anal fin). If you look at the pics from the book, you'll see that it's fairly common in wild oscars, at least from certain regions.
