Howdy,

I got a replacement for one of my backup B 11 silent air pumps which I've had for close to 20 years. Not sure when Penn-Plax changed the design, but compare the two. They used to nicely contain everything, but the one I got today is totally stripped down with everything exposed and loose wires, what a disappointment. Really a shoddy piece of aquarium equipment now.

Dang, they don't make them the way they used to. Even the case is flimsy, but incredibly hard to open.

Welcome to 20 years later, and don't expect to get 20 years out of this model. Sad, but true of so many items nowadays. Remember when appliances lasted so long that the only reason you replaced them is because they were 20 years out of style? We had a chest freezer that functioned in the house for decades, then moved to the outside storage room and ran until it got so rusty it was an eyesore - but still running.

Never really remember my parents replacing appliances like I do.

I have two houses, one built in 1986 and the second in 2009. The older house still has the original water heater on a private well with liquid rock for water. The second house we had built in 2009, it too is on a private well and we are on the third water heater in 17 years. I should have replaced the original water heater decades ago but now it’s fun to see how long it’s going to last, it had its 40th birthday in December.
